What are Feelings?

Feelings are an emotional state or reaction, eg love, affection, fondness, tenderness, warmth or a fancy idea
Also negative like: resentment, anger, hunger, hate

Feelings and Choice

Choice is the act of selecting or making a decision when faced with two or more possibilities, options or alternatives. The attitude of my feelings my choice is motivated by desire for doing what your heart desires


Freedom is the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint. State of being free. However freedom comes with a responsibility

The Christian of today is pursing the perceived idea of freedom from every perspective of life. In the streets the feeling is my dress my choice, my body my choice, my food, my relationship

The selfish term My

Its against this background of perceived need for freedom from the law that Jesus responds. The Pharisees had taken their perceived freedom to keep the law in an extremist manner, too far. The ordinary Jew felt judged hence the need for the law to be abolished so that they could enjoy freedom from condemning zealiots. The excitement that Jesus had come to do away with the law was evident.

Who were the Pharisees?

The Pharisees had separated and organized themselves into distinct and closed communities. These “holy communities” existed within Jerusalem. All members were carefully scrutinized, criticized when they fell short and highly praised when they observed accurately. As time went by they developed into self-righteous and hypocritical formalists.

Salvation is not religion but a personal relationship with God
This relationship was broken by sin and God wanted to repair it.
Through Abraham God calls us to be His own
Through Moses the law was givenmosaic law
Christ death was atonement for all our sins. No more killing of animals .salvation is by grace through faith only Ephesians 2:8

Romans 6:1 what shall we say? Shall we continue in sin so that grace may increase?

The prevailing religious understanding of the day was that you needed to keep all the laws to please God and Jews found this repressive. Jesus says the Pharisees were so caught up in the observing the law, in the most minuscule of ways, in trivial matters, like arguing over tithing, that they had forgotten the weightier matters of the law, what was at its heart, Justice Mercy and Faithfulness.


Jean Jacques Rousseau 1772-1778 a French philosopher in his document called the The Social Contract said that the general will of the people should be the ruling force in any society Choices have consequencies- 2 cor 5:10, Romans 14:12, mathew 12:36, Eccl 12:14
